Trail Status Update

April 1st

As the snow recedes and Tom Miner Basin transitions to spring, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us on the trails this winter. Your enthusiasm, shared stories, and appreciation for our mountain landscape made this ski season truly special. While we already miss the quiet swish of skis through fresh powder, we’re looking forward to welcoming you back in summer to experience a different season at B Bar Ranch. Whether hiking Ramshorn, joining a Signature Stay, viewing grizzly bears, or simply stopping by to say hello, our mountain sanctuary awaits your return. Until snow blankets the basin once again, thank you for being part of our winter community.

In winter, a profound stillness settles between the willows where grizzlies graze during warmer months. Our network of groomed trails winds through this landscape, inviting cross-country skiers to follow paths carved by countless generations before us. Those exploring the Basin floor discover century-old homesteading structures – the Davis and Anderson cabins – testament to the remarkable determination required to survive at 6,600 feet when winters were harsher and modern comforts nonexistent.

The journey continues upward to the Skully tent along trails bordering Gallatin National Forest, rewarding skiers with long, graceful descents and Montana’s most breathtaking views of Paradise Valley. For those seeking deeper solitude, the backcountry trail to Sawmill Cabin leads through pristine habitat where elk herds and abundant wildlife find sanctuary year-round.

With over 20 miles of cross-country terrain, the pristine wilderness of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem reveals itself in endless variety, offering new discoveries with each visit.

Surreal Experience

“The most magical surreal experience was xc-skiing through the willows. The moon was sparkling on the snow. – Marta A. “

A Note for Our Skiing Friends

When you visit our trails, you’ll understand why we maintain a no-dogs policy. Our winter landscape is far from dormant – moose pairs browse willows mere meters from ski trails, and elk herds leave their stories written in the snow. We invite you to bring binoculars instead of pets, packed lunches instead of leashes, and a spirit of adventure that matches our wild residents. The serendipity of secluded ski trails awaits.
