Maryanne rides a horse in the winter.

B Bar Gazette
Issue #20 January 2025
Hello friends of B Bar,

When Maryanne first glimpsed Tom Miner Basin in the winter of 1978, the B Bar Ranch was accessible only by snowmobile. That record-setting winter painted a vivid picture of life at 6,600 feet. The county wouldn't plow the road for years to come. Originally seeking a small getaway spot in the Greater Yellowstone area, Maryanne found herself drawn to something far more expansive. As she viewed the land from above in her realtor’s Cessna, she saw not just a piece of real estate but an extraordinary opportunity to immerse herself in the stewardship of a remarkable piece of the West.

Forty-seven years later, while much has changed at B Bar Ranch, winter's character remains the same - snow stacking deep, woodstoves glowing warmly, and elk herds finding shelter in the willows. As we embrace winter 2025, we're excited to share some recent updates to our historic operation.
When 28" of snow fell last week in Big Timber, Randy was tending the herd.
Our newly redesigned website offers a deeper look into ranch life, with captivating banner videos that tell our story. We're particularly excited to announce our partnership with Regen Market, providing a new way to purchase our beef year-round. While Regen Market is typically membership-based, B Bar customers can shop our products without membership through links on our website. This collaboration allows us to keep our focus on raising exceptional beef while ensuring reliable shipping and service throughout the year. If you have any questions about shopping on Regen Market’s website, don’t hesitate to reach out to our partner Xan Jarecki.

Here in Tom Miner Basin, winter has arrived in force! This weekend's storm brought 8-10 inches of fresh snow, allowing us to open our entire trail network. From gentle meadow loops to challenging mountain terrain, we offer 20+ miles of trails. Most of our trails are groomed for classic and skate skiing, while Sawmill trail remains ungroomed for a true backcountry experience. Visit our website to purchase passes and sign waivers online, making it easier than ever to access our winter wonderland.

As we embrace these modern conveniences - from online trail reports and pass purchases to plowed winter roads - we can't help but think of Maryanne's first snowmobile ride up Tom Miner Creek Road and over the tops of the jack fences. What once required a flight in a Cessna and a snowy journey by snowmobile can now be discovered with a few clicks and an easy drive. Yet while technology has made the ranch more accessible, the essence of this place remains unchanged - a sanctuary where working lands meet wild nature and where each season writes its own story. Whether you’re purchasing beef on your phone to enjoy at your dinner table, skiing on our groomed trails, or enjoying a locally sourced and elegantly prepared meal at a B Bar Ranch-to-Table event, you're part of a legacy that began with one person's vision of understanding how to strengthen the connection between land, animals, and community.

Sincerely,

Jackson Stewart
