B Bar Gazette – December 2024
B Bar Gazette |
Issue #19 December 2024 |
Hello friends of B Bar, As winter nights lengthen in Tom Miner Basin, we find ourselves embracing both rest and purpose. These fifteen hours of darkness offer time for stargazing, reading by the fire, sharing meals, and finding peace in the quiet season. Daylight brings its own rhythm - tending cattle, preparing accommodations, maintaining equipment, and grooming our cross-country trails. As Mark Rose trades his saddle for a snowmobile, the sound echoes across the valley, calling winter to our mountain sanctuary. |

The willows where grizzlies roamed just weeks ago now stand hushed in fresh snow. Our groomed trails weave through this landscape, echoing the stories of those who came before us. As you glide across the Basin floor, you’ll encounter the Davis and Anderson cabins—century-old landmarks that bear witness to the resilience of early homesteaders who braved winters at 6,600 feet, long before the conveniences of modern life. |

The Anderson cabin and looking up the Soldier Creek draw. |
As you climb toward the Skully tent on trails bordering Gallatin National Forest, you're rewarded with sweeping views of Paradise Valley and long, graceful descents. For those seeking solitude, the backcountry trail to the Sawmill Cabin offers glimpses of elk herds and other wildlife in their undisturbed habitat. With over 20 miles of trails through the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, each day brings new discoveries. |
Winter has arrived in Tom Miner Basin, and we're excited to open our cross-country ski trails for the season. Last night's storm left us with a pristine base, and while early-season conditions exist, the fresh snow offers smooth skiing across our mountain landscape. Our trails are now open daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with day passes available for $15. |

Looking ahead, winter brings more than just skiing. Join us January 17-19 and February 14-17 for B Bar Ranch-to-Table weekends, where thoughtfully prepared meals featuring our organic beef and local ingredients complement days spent on snow-covered trails. Whether you're joining us for a meal, staying in our historic A-Frame cabins, or planning a longer retreat, we invite you to experience winter's quiet magic at B Bar.
