Cross-Country Skiing

Unlimited Skiing on 20+ Miles of Trails

In winter, a deep stillness settles over Tom Miner Basin, transforming the open meadows and willow-lined creeks into a quiet corridor for exploration. Our cross-country ski trails wind across the basin floor and into the surrounding foothills, passing historic homesteads and rising toward sweeping views of Paradise Valley and the Gallatin Range. With more than 20 miles of terrain when conditions allow, skiing at B Bar Ranch offers a rare way to move through the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, where wildlife, history, and landscape converge.

Trail Update — December 17, 2025

We are currently closed for cross-country skiing. The snow we received earlier this season has melted, and there is no snow coverage on the basin floor at this time. We’re doing our snow dances and calling on Ullr in hopes of a Christmas miracle. Please continue to check back here for the most up-to-date trail conditions and opening announcements as winter unfolds.

Surreal Experience

“The most magical surreal experience was xc-skiing through the willows. The moon was sparkling on the snow. – Marta A. “

A Note for Our Skiing Friends

When you visit our trails, you’ll understand why we maintain a no-dogs policy. Our winter landscape is far from dormant – moose pairs browse willows mere meters from ski trails, and elk herds leave their stories written in the snow. We invite you to bring binoculars instead of pets, packed lunches instead of leashes, and a spirit of adventure that matches our wild residents. The serendipity of secluded ski trails awaits.
