The Montana Men’s Retreat, a novel gathering co-created by The Common Ground Project and J Bar L Ranch, provides an opportunity to discuss the dominant masculine paradigms that are influencing culture in the American West. Together, through guided discussions, we explore the ways men are culturally conditioned, barriers that limit men from stepping into more heartfelt spaces, ways to balance mature masculine and mature feminine, and actions we can take to shift the status quo and build new practices. This retreat holds a safe space for conversation that supports new ways of thinking, feeling, and being in relationship to land and to one’s self.

Our 3-day courses include field travel on skis/boards each day. These 24-hour courses are taught under the guidelines set forth by the American Avalanche Association (AAA). Expect in-depth instruction in backcountry travel, terrain management, snowpack assessment, rescue practices, and decision making. Each course is run by two instructors, allowing for a low student to instructor ratio and unique perspectives.

The Snow Moon, February’s full moon, reaches it’s peak on February 24. As the last full moon this winter, it is a powerful time for rest, reflection, and embracing some magic. This retreat is centered around cross-country skiing, a Yellowstone National Park adventure, soaking in natural hot springs, and guided energetic, spiritual work and intention setting for the year ahead. We are thrilled to co-create this experience with a group of creative, passionate, wise women.

Exploring dream theory and methodology, Dr. Stephen Aizenstat will showcase unique examples of Dream Tending practice as he works with one of each participant’s dreams. He will encourage participants’ engagement through association, amplification, and animation. Clinical perspectives will be included when appropriate. Dr. Aizenstat will also guide participants as they work independently, with a dyad partner, and in groups. The striking Montana landscape plays its own part, bringing the psyche of nature into the work. A unique ritual created by the group is presented at the conclusion of the retreat.
